Network Integrity System Engineers Conduct Cable Intrusion Testing To Confirm INTERCEPTOR™ Optical Network Security System Is Compatible With Any Fiber Optic Cable System.

Conover, N.C. (Oct.16, 2007)-Through ongoing RD&E activities, engineers at Network Integrity Systems are routinely conducting tests using various manufacturers' optical cable systems in order to qualify/test the ability to detect physical intrusion attempts into those cables while being monitored with the INTERCEPTOR™ Optical Network Security System . "Not all cable systems are equal," says Cary Murphy, Chief Scientist for Network Integrity Systems. "Some require as few as one monitored fiber within the cable to achieve total protection while some may require a monitored fiber in each sub-unit. This is why we designed INTERCEPTOR to monitor fibers intrinsic to the cable thus providing the ability to scale the number of monitored fibers based on the threat level, cable design, etc."

Developed in part with DoD funding and designed specifically for information assurance and IT security applications, INTERCEPTOR leads the next generation of alarm carrier protected distribution systems (PDS) and fully meets the requirements of NSTISSI 7003. Incorporating Intrinsic Fiber Monitoring™ technology, INTERCEPTOR provides a reliable and cost effective solution for physical security of SIPRNet and JWICS networks. Unlike older generation alarm carrier solutions adapted from perimeter security systems, which use a separate (extrinsic) special sensing fiber to monitor the cable pathway for acoustic vibrations, INTERCEPTOR technology monitors dark (unused) or active (data carrying) fibers within the cable being protected to detect motion and manipulation. This difference results in fail-safe, nuisance-free monitoring and the ability to scale protection to match the level of classification and/or threats to the network. INTERCEPTOR works with any optical cable type and is compatible with all Ethernet standards including 10Gigabit. Since it is purely a physical layer device and does not touch the data, unlike encryption, INTERCEPTOR does not create any bandwidth bottlenecks. With plug-and-play capability, INTERCEPTOR can be rapidly added to existing network infrastructure making migration from NIPRNet to SIPRNet quick and cost effective.

Network Integrity Systems has summarized the above mentioned findings and will be presenting these in a technical paper entitled Enhancing the Deployment and Security of SIPRNet and JWICS Networks using Intrinsic Fiber Monitoring™ at MILCOM 2007 on October 31st in Orlando, Florida.
