Conover, N.C. (June 1, 2005) - Network Integrity Systems introduces the INTERCEPTOR™ Optical Network Security System, the next generation of Alarmed Carrier Protected Distribution Systems (PDS).

Alarmed Carrier PDS offers significant benefits over encryption and/or hardened PDS for SIPRNet and JWICS deployments providing flexible, scalable and robust protection, all at a low cost, while assuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information are achieved. But not all Alarmed Carrier technology is the same.

Unlike older generation alarm carrier solutions adapted from perimeter security systems, which use a separate (extrinsic) special sensing fiber to monitor the cable pathway for acoustic vibrations, INTERCEPTOR technology monitors dark (unused) or active (data carrying) fibers within the cable being protected to detect motion and manipulation. Called Intrinsic Fiber Monitoring™, this difference results in fail-safe, nuisance-free monitoring and the ability to scale the protection level to the threat level.

Developed in part with DoD funding and designed specifically for information security applications, INTERCEPTOR™ fully meets the requirements of NSTISSI 7003, works with any optical cable type and is compatible with all Ethernet standards including 10Gigabit. Since it is purely a Layer-One device and does not touch the data, unlike encryption, no bandwidth bottlenecks are created. And since intrusion attempts are detected before the cable system is breached, Periodic Visual Inspections (PVIs) of the carrier system, such as those required with hardened PDS, are no longer necessary. With plug-and-play capability, INTERCEPTOR can be rapidly added to existing network infrastructure - again in contrast to hardened PDS - making migration from NIPRNet to SIPRNet quick and cost effective.
